After 9 months…kaput2

I have had this machine for 9 months and it has been okay. Plays DVD’s in very good quality. It does not record in HD to DVD from a cable box. It is grainy to say the least downgrades to 480P for recording…sucks! Somewhat difficult to setup machine; now does not work, shows U99 on display and is frozen, only turns on and off and displays U99. Power down and back up=U99. Still under warranty but have to take it 261 miles away for warranty work. Cost of mailing is ridiculous. This thing is going in the trash.

Worked great until…2

I purchased this unit August 2007. There weren’t many on the market then, and the cost was approx. bet. $250-$300. Took a bit to get the hang of and had a few initial questions/problems which cust. service helped with. The unit was not perfect, but worked fine for my needs.

I recently lost power for 11 hours due to a storm. When the power came back, the unit was not funtioning properly. Tried everything possible to reset it. There is a one year warranty, but since mine ran out, customer service suggested to send it for repair which could cost over $100! Very disappointed.

Informed that unit should be plugged into a surge protector as opposed to a wall outlet. I will do that in the future. Now need to start from scratch researching other products. Specifically looking for a VCR/DVD combo which allows recording on both discs and vhs tapes and has a digital tuner. I haven’t seen many with glowing reviews. ho hum.

Good features, but not reliable2

We’ve had this DVD/VCR combo for a little over a year. Now the DVD tray is stuck shut with a dvd inside it.

It did a pretty good job recording and playing DVDs, but it was sensitive to locking up with anything recorded on another machine and with any scratch.

Overall, I think it had potential - Panasonic just needed to get the bugs worked out.

Play your music and movies in the car! The PET7402 features two 7″ TFT LCD display screens that let you indulge in enjoying your DVD movies, music, and photos on the road, with everything you need to easily install and mount to the headrests in your car. Includes AC/DC adaptor, AV cable, car charger and headrest mounting straps.

So far so good …4

This DVD player has been performing as designed, keeping in mind the reviews from other models. I bought it new in Target. It is true that usually the 2nd screen is not as crisp & sharp as the main unit, but to average joes and kids, such discrepancy is easily overlooked.

What I will be doing is install the DVD player & 2nd screen in my van when we are going on road trips that takes 45 mins at least. Otherwise, the products stay inside my house where it’s safe and cool. I’ll see if they will last me at least a year! I’ll update my comments after a year or when my unit conked out, whichever comes first.

Netgear RND2150 ReadyNAS Duo 500 GB Desktop Network Attached Storage Netgear RND2150 ReadyNAS Duo 500 GB Desktop Network Attached Storage

The ReadyNAS Duo is perfect for homes with more than one computer. Unlike a USB drive, the ReadyNAS connects to the network and is simultaneously accessible via all connected Windows or Macintosh computers. If there is a broadband Internet connection and a home router, the ReadyNAS can be set up to provide secure access to all the stored files remotely via the Internet. For added protection of stored data, an optional second hard disk drive can be installed. The spare hard drive will keep an extra copy of all the data and instantly take over if the first hard drive should fail.Advanced media streaming support allows the ReadyNAS to directly serve media, with no PC required, to devices such as the NETGEAR EVA8000, Sonos Digital Music System, Logitech Squeezebox, Apple iTunes clients, Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.Officially licensed BitTorrent client allows downloading to occur without the need for an additional computer. A Web-based interface facilitates download management from computers, and a special NETGEAR Digital Entertainer interface allows management from the EVA8000.

1-star review by Kalyan S. Tirumala should be ignored because…5

It is a shame that the reviewer Kalyan S. Tirumala (below) lost all his/her hard drive data, but please understand that what Kalyan S. Tirumala did was wrong. You are not supposed to take a hard drive that you own AND has your important data on it, and install it into the NAS. Do not do that! If you do this, the NAS will automatically reformat the drive you installed (reformats drive to ext3 file system) which then deletes all data that was on it. Then, Kalyan S. Tirumala goes on to complain about tech support…. OMG. Sorry, but I had to LOL.

Netgear ReadyNAS Duo5

I use the unit to backup the various coumpters on my home network. It was easy to set up and runs very quitely. No problems so far and the speed is well within what should be expected from this type device.

Great file server, ITunes software? Back to the drawing board.4

As a file server this device is awesome. Set up is easy for both Mac and PC. Webserving is also a snap, as is the bittorrent add-on. The only junk here is the advertised ITunes streaming service. Not only is it unable read many mp3’s and mp4’s that ITunes has no problem with, but instead of giving an error message or skipping the files, the application completely locks up and has to be removed and reinstalled before you can try again (at which time it locks up again). A quick check to the Redynas forums shows the problem to be pretty universal and, if you have a lot of files in your ITunes library, the fix is complicated, time consuming and involves paying for extra software to repair music files tat ITunes plays with no problem. The software is a beta product but still, it is an advertised function of the device and therefore should work.

CTL has WORST customer service ever!1

I purchased the CTL 2 go pc and it wouldn’t boot to the operating system ( Windows XP )

When I called CTL I was transferred to a guy names John who identified himself as the 2go project manger. When I asked him if he could help me he was rude and aggressive and told me he didn’t have the time to answer my questions and transferred me to the technical repair line. I then spoke to a guy who sounded Eastern European and he told me he wasn’t in charge of repairing 2go pcs and then he transferred me to a guy named Jason. I got Jasons voicemail and left a message with my name, number and email address. 2 weeks later, no reply. I called again and asked to speak to the manager and was transferred to the voicemail of a guy named Eric Stronqist who is the guy in charge of CTL. Again I left my info, again no reply. Companies like these will be the first to go in this economic downturn and they deserve all they get.

You are paying for the kid-friendly form factor2

I originally purchased this for my 9 year old because the kids computer was losing keys and was sufficiently outdated that it would not run some of the games like the new versions of Zoo Tycoon. I liked the idea that this would have a more durable “kid-friendly” form factor. However, it is woefully underpowered and frankly, not significantly more durable than some of the comparably priced Acer or Asus systems. In addition, the CTL, Acer Aspire and Asus EEe do not have DVD/CD drives which is very inconvenient if you want to run children’s games which require the original disk be in the drive in order to run.

I came across an Acer Extensa which is a dual AMD with 2 GB memory. I bought the Extensa at Best Buy for 399 which is less than the CTL or the Asus EEe and the Acer Aspire and it has better specs. It has a larger 14″ screen and it is a comparable size to the CTL. While the Extensa comes with Vista and is an “ok” speed, if you wipe it and install Windows XP — you have a system with performance that should last indefinitely for the kids — particularly if you use Open Office (a great FREE alternative to MS Office).

So if you want an economical system for the kids that will allow them to play today’s memory/CPU intensive games AND be able to do dual duty as a “real system” capable of running office and home productivity suites, check out the Acer Extensa or even the Aspire systems. In the long run, it will be cheaper since you won’t be looking at having to upgrade in a year as the needs of the kids and your family changes.

Warning before updating to XP SP3!1

I tend to agree with all the other reviews so far, so I won’t repeat what they said. I do need to give a couple of warnings:

1. Wireless internet connection doesn’t work after upgrading to Windows XP SP3. Once I upgrade, the wireless is able to connect to my router and my other PC’s, but internet connection is spotty at best and broken at worst.

2. Customer support is nonexistent! I’ve emailed them a couple of times and no one has responded after three weeks. They don’t seem to offer telephone support.

3. Reformatting drive using provided recovery disk crashes computer. I thought my wireless issues might be a software issue so I tried using the recovery disk to start from scratch, but after the hard drive was reformatted, the computer would freeze on the initial 2goPC screen with no way of going forward. I had to return the laptop to Amazon and get a replacement, which is when I figured out the wireless problem only occurs when Service Pack 3 is installed.

Reviews HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer

HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer

Want a multifunction color printer that offers the convenience of wireless networking? Our Officejet 6500 is right for all your small-office printing, faxing, copying, and scanning. You’ll get professional-quality color at up to 40% lower color cost per page and using less energy than laser printers. And you’ll be able to scan photos and documents (up to legal size) directly into folders, no PC required.

It’s Better Than I Expected4

I was just looking for a basic color printer since I have an all-in-one for faxing and very fast laser mono printers for the rest. But when I got it home and saw the small footprint and how easy it was to set up, I decided to replace the now 5 year old Cannon with it.

It took me a long time to physically assemble because the instruction pictures on the set up page was a little confusing, but I did it. Turning it on and going through the initialization was a snap. So was installing the software. (If you disaable your virus protection the software loads much faster.)

It is a little noisy but since it’s not my primary printer it doesn’t bother me. I do big jobs on the other ones.

What I really liked was being able to set the machine up via computer instead of the manually at the faceplate. Everything is just one click, if you have to go back a step, it remembers what you typed in, etc. Even the time is set automatically.

You can set it to have your faxes come to a file on your computer rather than print from the machine. That’s a Big paper saver.

I mainly use the color to highlight text or add colored notes to text (mostly court opinions)and there’s an HP program for doing that included that also ocr’s text ao you aren’t so married to Adobe. The color prints come out really good. I thought they’d be wet and stain but not so far.

You can also set up the speed-dial on your computer and fax from there.

I set it up with an ethernet cord since it is sitting next to the ethernet jack and dediciated fax line jack. My desk is on the other side of the room (with its own ethernet jack) so it’s great not to need cables to hook the two directly. The fewer cords the better.

At $159 (what I paid for the 63710 version, $10.00 more than the regular one),)I think it’s a great deal. I also really like the laser monochromes 2015 and 2055.

Windows74

I am looking at buying this printer, but am very cautious about whether it will work with my 64-bit Windows 7.

Good only if you like pricey Inkjets1

Hewlett Packard has a fixation on flatbed scanners. This is yet another example of their dislike of automatic document feeders. The ADF on this puppy gleefully mangles any page that is not perfectly flat and perfectly aligned.

If you want an inkjet printer that is capable of the occasional scan, then go ahead and buy it. If you need to scan anything more than ten pages a week, avoid it.

I bought this because it is supposed to work well in Linux. It does install very nicely in Linux. However, I would never describe what it does to scanned in paper as ‘working well’.

Other features include: microphone, long-lasting rechargeable battery and a bright screen for exceptionally easy navigation of tunes. of tunes.

Simple Player4

This is a nice simple non-intrusive player. If all you want is the basics this delivers well. It plays mp3s, has radio and voice recording. it is a no nonsense tool for people.

Battery life is nice at 8 hours of play time for me so it works well when traveling on the bus or doing a bit of work. Charging is done by usb, it uses a mini b plug and done easily at most computers.

A problem I had is that it hates not being ejected properly and the clip is very flimsy, not a strong at all. I feel it is better tucked away in a pocket. Mine was not machine washable so take care to not leave it in your pocket.

awesome mp3 player4

This product is perfect for someone needing a simple but effective mp3 player. I love it! The headphones it comes with are not the best but efficient until you get a better pair. I definetly recommend buying this when someone needs a simple but inexpensive mp3 player.

Sansa Clip 4 GB4

Very good sound quality that can be improved with better quality earbuds. Very simple to use and has a good battery life.

CPQ C727US PRESARIO NOTEBOOK COMPUTER OP

Good for the price3

This was given to me as a gift, wasn’t what I asked for, but anyway. Mine died after owning it for 1 month. Basically it was problem with Vista. I chatted with the HP tech online on another computer trying to fix the problem, no dice. The technician claimed it was my fault I broke it. Oh, I did not get a recovery disk when I got the laptop either, so it didn’t help the situation that I had to wait 1 month for the recovery disk while HP sent it to me. Yes, mine was a faulty programming issue by Vista as I later determined. I had asked for a much tougher laptop because I do digital photography. But because this one only has 1GB RAM, when I use photoshop, all the other programs has to be shut down. By the way, the laptop came with 1 year of anti-virus and X number of Office use. But since mine had to be rebooted, I lost all that. I no longer have 1 year free use of anti-virus or the X-number use of Office. Just a word of warning to people who is getting this. But considering the price, not a bad deal if you just need something that you can haul around with you on the go. If yours do break and you can actually get someone from HP who knows anything about Vista to chat with you, then you will be ok. I had to call HP 3 times to get someone who actually knew what I was talking about. And the person knew instantly it was faulty programming by Vista, which caused my laptop to completely freeze and wouldn’t turn on anymore.

TERRIBLE Warranty and Tech Service!1

Bought this brand new. Vista froze. Won’t start up if AC adapter plugged in. Hard drive died. Then the Motherboard died. All in less than 3 months. Had to send to HP tech support. Two weeks later, repair of defective product is still pending. Backlog of parts and technicians. Can’t get an answer out of anyone even after calling the Executive Customer Support department at the headquarters in Palo Alto. HP Will not replace. HP Will not expedite repair. The computer will be gone for at least 1 MONTH! No loaner, no replacement. My dad and Brothers HP’s also died. DO NOT BUY HP products.

HP needs to new policy concerning replacing defective merchandise purchased in good faith.

Compaq C727US3

Good Looking, the only need is pcmi card reader.

The price is good for what you obtain.

TiVo R24004A 40-Hour Digital Video Recorder TiVo R24004A 40-Hour Digital Video Recorder

Record up to 40 hours of your favorite shows without videotape. Control live TV - pause, rewind, slow-mo, and instant replay. Broadband connectivity allows you to enjoy Digital Music, Digital Photos, Remote Scheduling and more - all on your TiVo DVR. It works with everything: cable, digital cable, satellite, antenna, and combinations

I love you, Tivo5

You have been a trusted friend and companion for 5 years, after our first try failed. Not one mistake, mistep, fail or falter. You have been super.

Now you are worth next to nothing and I am selling you for $10 on Craigslist. Sorry. But that new HD simply rocks.

A Happy TIVO Owner5

TIVO is one of the few discretionary electronic purchases in our home that we would absolutely replace immediately if necessary. They are expensive to purchase and if you purchase a lifetime support option, even more so. However, I would recommend this option if you can afford to purchase it since we have more than offset what monthly payments would have cost us over the years.

There are many things we like about our TIVOs. A few are the ease with which you can record (and delete) programming. Also, the many recording options that allow you to record only new programming or new and repeated programming; the ability to record programs with a specific actor, singer, producer or topic without ongoing manual intervention; and the number of programs that can be stored on the TIVO. We feel that the TIVO saves us money in the long run. Before we had TIVO, we would rent many movies during a month and now we rarely rent movies since we have a continual backlog of programming to watch on TIVO. Our daughter has a TIVO and `prerecords’ entire series of programming that she considers acceptable for the children.

TIVOs are not all created equal. You can purchase independent TIVOs from TIVO itself or purchase your DVR via cable or satellite providers. Keep in mind that the ones you purchase from TIVO are full featured and will work with either cable or satellite systems. Ones purchased via third parties such as cable and satellite providers have tailored sets of features and will work only with their system. (If you move and go from one cable system to another or to satellite your DVR may have to be replaced.)

Independent TIVOs can be LAN connected and we have done so. We have one in our living room and one in our recreation room. LAN connecting of TIVOs adds a whole new dimension to their abilities. We can watch recorded programs on either TIVO while recording one program in the living room and one in the recreation room concurrently. We can transfer programs from one TIVO to another if we decide to watch the program in a different room. Since the TIVOs are on the LAN, they can access the photo libraries on our PC. As photos are downloaded to the PC they are immediately available for slide shows on the TV.

We have had several occasions to use TIVO’s customer support. We feel that their support has been excellent. In most cases, our problem was resolved on the first call and their support people have been very helpful.

Get it, use it, love it, live it….5

I could never leave the house again, thanks to my TIVO, they are upgradeable, and have the BEST program guide/interface of anyone. There Tivo to go is very glitchy at this point, but the TIVO service itself is top notch, I am about to get my 3rd tivo box. The two I have, this and another have acted flaky occasionaly, but it was usually assosiated with one of there updates. It is slower recently, but still very useable. The only hardware issues I have either fixed themself or on one occasion I realized that I was baking my tivo in my entertainment center(oven) it needs room to breathe, especially if you have a crappy comcast cable box near it, the two create a lot of heat, just make sure its not enclosed or near a heat vent. Overall it will change your life, and how you watch tv. A lot of the problems people have had in a lot of these reviews is due to not knowing how to use the box, read the directions carefully.

Happy with it4

Pretty good. I like pretty much everything in it. The only problem is that the charge goes out within a day or two.

Detail of Motorola Razr V3xx5

I purchased this phone about a year ago when my contract was up with Cingular (ATT), and I renewed.

My previous phone was a Razor, and before that an LG and before that another Motorola.

Once you become accustomed with the Motorola Menu, then go to LG, they are opposites of each other. You have to relearn how to get around the menu. (I even had a Nokia, which I will never purchase another one again)

Why I choose this phone

1. It is a Motorola; Motorola’s have always been very good with me. After my LG experience, I decided not to stray again.

2. MP3 playing ability.

Yes I am tired of having ten different things to carry in my pockets and this simplifies it to one product.

I really was not interested in the camera, web and other features. (Thou I will comment on this later)…

This phone comes with the ability to play MP3’s, you can put the phone in speaker mode where it sounds like an old transmitter is radio, or get a blue tooth head set. Which I have purchased a Stereo Bluetooth Headset. This feature works great, the phone it self will hold MP3s,(not sure how many) you can also purchase an additional memory card for it, which I have purchased a 2GB micro card which I have many MP3’s and a few pictures, (this does not support wma, wm4 only MP3).

Other features!

This phone has probably more than one might need?

You can forward calls to another phone, it you don’t answer the phone it can forward with out using your celluar carrier, the phone will do this if you set it up. If you find this feature and you have Cingular you will see it is forwarded to your voice mail number, so if you change this, remember that number so you can put it back in there.

You can block your out going number; accept data and fax calls, voice dialing, 3 way conference, etc

I notice cellular carriers offer these services; this phone can do this all without subscribing to another service from the cellular company.

One can assign ring tones to groups or individuals use MP3s as ring tones (Such as when my sister calls a whole song will play until I answer the phone).

Other features:

You can go online, but the site should be designed for viewing from a cellular phone. I have viewed my personal site with this phone, it worked, but the site is not designed for a cell phone. I just don’t care to use it to browse the web. But it is there if needed.

You can download special applications to go online, such as check your bank account, Wachovia offers such an application.

The Major instant messengers are included with the phone.

You can check your email with a special java application. Which is where I have a problem?

This phone you can only check certain e mails which are in this application. The last Generation Razor, you could set up the SMTP information directly into your phone and check any SMTP enabled email, I still have not found where to do this. This phone as far as I have found can only check the Email included in the Java applications (i.e. msn, yahoo, aol etc).

Data Connection: You can connect this phone via Bluetooth or Cable and use it as a modem with your PC and go online. This feature you have to subscribe to, I have unlimited Data with my carrier. I also have a Verizon Broadband card; this phone will connect to the internet at a faster speed then my Verizon Broadband card.

It also has all the other usual functions alarm clock, calculator, and a bunch of other stuff I never use.

Photos, MP3s, phone book etc…

You can purchase a program (Motorola Phone tools) and install it to a PC to sync the phonebook to outlook, retrieve photos, to and from the phone. This program you can create ring tones from MP3’s, edit photos, send text messages and bunch of other stuff I never use.

.

You can also use the Bluetooth bonding to PC/Mac to exchange information without the program as well. And another interesting thing you can print to a Bluetooth enabled printer, which I have yet to try! (But as soon as I find a printer I will try it, Toshiba’s MFP can have this feature)

Reception Quality:

I work as a PC / Laser Printer tech and drive from office to office; I have been in the Everglades of Florida to South Carolina, to Upstate NY with this phone. I have another phone I carry for work, a Motorola V325i with Verizon. In comparison: the ATT Razor V3xx always has a signal, where as the Verizon is a gamble. I still have not figured out if it is the phone or service?

I wish my company would go with Cingular, then I could have a single phone as this Phone will allow more than one number assigned to a single phone. (Most modern phones have this feature).

Overall it the quality of service has been good, I use it as a back up to my work phone, when it will not work in a building, and I use my Razor, because it will work.

I have been in very few places where it doesn’t work.

After reading other reviews some mention a beep if you don’t answer the phone, and no zoom?

This beep can be turned off, read the Manual that comes with the phone sometime, this guy would rather buy a new phone, and then spend a minute reading and investigating?

As for the Zoom on the Camera? Mine has lettering around the eye, 1.3 MP and 8X Zoom. Which in English translates to?

1.3 Mega Pixels… 1.3 million pixels. (If you don’t understand this, look up some information about Pixels)

8X zoom, it does Zoom 8 Times, the quality of the pic decreases as you zoom. I can even send the photos as an email from this phone.

Not the high quality SLR, but pretty good considering it is a phone. The camera features different modes and adjustments, I have gotten some good quality photos but this takes a bit of adjustment. But then again so does my digital camera? Again if you read up on this you to will know how to use this feature?

And the Red Dot problem!

Open any phone look for a little dot of some sort!

This is standard and can you blame the manufactures, certainly after warranting the many retards that jumped into the pool with their phones, would you want to cover that?

I have the phone insurance with ATT; I have in the past smashed my phone, went to ATT and got another one. ATT phones use a SIM card which I have discovered, will work in any SIM card phone! I have put my SIM card into other phones just to see if it will work.

It does, I have put the card into $20 pay as you go junk phones and it works. Rather than pay the monthly fee for insurance, or pay for a new $200 phone, if I break my phone I will be buying a cheap pay as you go phone and using it with my SIM card. (A trick they don’t tell you about!)…

I have dropped this phone so many times, lost it in the car, tends to fall out of my pocket and go under the driver seat. It has scratches and has been abused. Still works well.

The Battery life? If I talk, it goes dead after about 1.5 hours, using it as an MP3 Player seems to last longer. Just leaving it on has lasted days. I haven’t really paid much attention to this.

I am not really concerned about battery life as I understand it is a battery, I always have something to charge my phone with, and you can also charge this phone with the Proper USB cable to a PC.

The thing I don’t like is it gets warm when I am talking on it, this dosen’t matter it I am using Bluetooth or using the headset.

The last thing I didn’t like about this phone, which I did not know until I bought it…

Using an earpiece, there is no 1.5m Jack, only Bluetooth Enabled Earpieces will work.

If one can get an earpiece that connects through the data / battery port, I do not know?

After reading the reviews I would conclude half the problems are User Error, not manufacture error? Simply because people are lazy and cant find the time to learn something new. Some infact would rather invest more money and not Time? (I have found this to be true in many different areas not just this phone)

Thoughts from someone who has switched5

In the first couple days after getting my Macbook, I felt like the guy who is last to see a movie everyone loves. Everyone has been laughing and quoting it and telling me I have to see it, and when I finally get around to it, I think “Oh . . . but it’s just a movie.” After about six months of researching and being sold on Macs, I thought “Oh . . . but it’s just a computer.” It was a sad moment when I realized it wasn’t going to change my life. I suppose as sort of a non-computer person, I was seduced into expecting it to hold me when I cried and make me breakfast in the morning. It doesn’t do either one of those things.

I’m happy to say that I’ve grown quite fond of my Mac, after a fashion, even though it consistently refuses to do my dishes and hasn’t actually changed my life. I will probably never be the Mac culty I thought I might become, but I don’t see myself going back to Windows. I’ve sipped the kool-aid and found it delicious refreshing.

Some things I like:

-It doesn’t come loaded with a lot of useless stuff you’ll never use; the applications that do come installed are things you’re going to use, or at least want to play with.

-Leopard is really easy to use, and it’s incredibly attractive. (I’ll be a geek and admit I love the genie-in-the-bottle effect when minimizing something to the dock.)

-The “Scrabble tile” keyboard is really nice and looks sleek.

-The whole system and the unit are simple. There aren’t extraneous lights, buttons, etc; everything does what it looks like it’s going to do, and it doesn’t look like an airport landing strip.

-The backlit keyboard is actually really useful; I wasn’t sure it would be.

-The trackpad with all the gestures isn’t as “gimmicky” as I’d read; the 3-finger forward and backward, and 4-finger expose features are really useful (though the 3-finger gestures don’t work in every application).

-Finding files is so easy, and it’s actually led me to be more organized in my saving of work; Time Machine works incredibly well–I can’t remember a single successful backup of my Windows computer, ever. That’s not Mac-freak speak; it’s true.

-It’s light and compact and I don’t need a special bag to put it in, I can fit the adapter and the notebook in my backpack.

-The battery life, while not quite as good as advertised, is miles above what I’m used to.

-Office for Mac isn’t as bad as a lot of the reviews I read say it is; I actually like it and find it simpler and easier to use than the Windows version. It did take some adjustment, though.

Some things I don’t like:

-It is beautiful, but it’s a scratch magnet. Aluminum is a soft metal, and within days I had three or four noticeable scratches that I can’t trace the origin of. I broke down and put on a see-through Speck case for it, because my OCD was kicking in. I hated the case at first, but it’s ultimately not that bad–aside from the dust that collects in the front, bottom corners. I just feel as though something that costs this much should stay pristine longer.

-Screenshots, which probably isn’t a common practice for most people, is sort of complex.

-Shortcuts take some getting used to. Using “command” in place of “alt” for Word shortcuts is a big change–and when I go back to work to use a Windows computer, I make mistakes doing that, too.

-I’m not yet sold on “Mail” and “iCal” being better than Outlook. One of the reasons I was sold on the Mac was the “Mail” feature of Notes and To-Dos–this feature has actually not worked correctly once. When I talked to AppleCare, they told me most people don’t use that feature and so they don’t have much information about it. About 3 or 3 weeks later, I’m still waiting for word on what’s wrong with it. It’s minor, clearly, as most people aren’t using it, but I was annoyed.

-Finally, there’s what my friend calls “Mac fear.” Essentially, the terror that comes with realizing you’ve spent a huge amount of money on a notebook and that it could get stolen or somehow damaged. I never really worried about that before. AppleCare protection plans and LoJack for Laptops alleviate the fear, but not much.

Ultimately I like the Mac a lot, and I’m glad I made the switch. As someone who works full time and also goes to school online full time, I find that it’s important to have a computer I don’t mind sitting in front of and lugging around with me everywhere. That’s the Mac. If you’re interested and can afford it, go for it. But, if, like me, you had a relatively new notebook and you were wondering if you should give in and replace it, I’d say hang on for a while. At the end of the day, it’s just a computer. A nice computer, and one that works well . . . but, again, it’s not going to pay your rent, wash your car, or have dinner with that relative you can’t stand . . . buyer beware.

I love it5

After 13 years with Windows I have moved all my stuff to Mac, cause I luv it. Everything is well thought and prepared for ease of use. Only thing is the price, a bit steep on pocket but its okay. Only one thing I want to say, Apple should include a better codec support for Quicktime. XVid, Divx, Matroska etc doesn’t play.

I’ve Gone to the Mac Side5

I’ve been an IT professional for almost 20 years and just made the leap from PC to Mac. I will never go back. I love my little Mac Book and bring it with me everywhere. It is so intuitive and user friendly that I was shocked how quickly I was all set to use it. Normally when you by a PC it takes at least 1/2 hour to complete the final Windows set up, not to mention setting up your wireless and printer. The Mac did it all in less than 5 minutes.
